Youngsters Showed Character in Bangladesh: Suresh Raina

India’s captain for the tour Suresh Raina yesterday said that the impressive performances of young players like Stuart Binny and Mohit Sharma in the ODI series win over Bangladesh augurs well for the ‘Men In Blue’ ahead of the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

A second strength India clinched the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh 2-0 after the third and final game of the rubber was abandoned yesterday because of intermittent showers. Even though India produced yet another shoddy batting display, Raina was satisfied with the overall performance of his team.

“I am very happy with the side, especially Stuart Binny, who bowled really well alongside Mohit Sharma and Umesh Yadav. We played good cricket, especially when you know World Cup is coming up, a lot of youngsters showed their character,” Raina said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

‘Happy for Taskin’

Raina also had words of appreciation for young Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed, who made his debut in the series. “When we came here for the Asia Cup and Taskin used to bowl to us in the nets, so really happy to see him do well,” the Indian skipper said.

Man-of-the-series Binny, who achieved the best bowling figures by an Indian in ODIs by breaking Anil Kumble’s 21-year-old record in the low-scoring second match, thanked his skipper Raina for trusting in his abilities. “I must thank my team and Suresh (Raina) for giving me this opportunity,” he said.
