Veteran actor Thilakan is going to strengthen his roots. The legendary actor is gearing up to directing and acting in a play, which has the title ‘Itho? Daivathinte Swantham Naadu!’ Doesn’t it mean a lot? This play is written by Manilal, and will have Thilakan’s son Shammi Thilakan as the assistant director. The ‘pooja’ ceremony of the drama was held here on Thursday.
Thilakan who made his entry into theatre at the age of 19 is now 74. The expert actor last performed for the theatre in 1990, when he took up a role in the Chalakudy Saradhy Theatres’ play ‘Adi Shankaran Janicha Naatil’.
Thilakan is coming back to theatre with his own, named ‘Aksharajwala Naataka Kalari’. Thilakan is also planning a theatre training wing to refine the acting skills of youngsters.
Thilakan began with the Kottayam National Theatres in 1955 and then worked with popular troupes like KPAC, before debuting in Malayalam cinema with ‘Ulkadal’ in 1979. Recently the actor was the centre-point of a controversy in Malayalam cinema after he alleged that he was being side-lined by superstars. He was later expelled from the life membership of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).
