MG Radhakrishnan passes away

Veteran music director and singer MG Radhakrishnan passed away at a private hospital in the capital city today. He was 73 and was ailing for some weeks due to some liver diseases.

Born at Haripad as the son of famous singer and harmonist Malabar Gopalan Nair, Radhakrishnan entered the film music industry by giving music to G Aravindan’s ”Thampu” in 1978. He was a All India Radio staff from 1962, where his light music compositions earned repute far and wide.

The veteran had created soul stirring music for many films including Thakara, Aaravan, Jhan Ekananu, Geetham , Jalakam , Nombarathipoovu, Adhvaitham,Kannezhuthy pottum thottu, Kattu Vannu vilichappol, Manichithrathazhu and Agni Devan . Noted singer MG Sreekumar is his brother and singer Dr Omanakutty is his sister.

He bagged the Kerala State Film Award for best music director for the film ‘Achaneyanenikkishtam’ in 2001 and ‘Ananthabhadram’ in 2005, which was his last major composition.
