Remakes are generally considered the safe bet in Tamil film industry. The likes of Vijay and Jayam Ravi have rendered several hits inspired by Telugu films. Following their footsteps is Githan Ramesh.
After Githan, director Vincent Selvah and Ramesh team up for Madurai Veeran, this is a remake of Telugu blockbuster Nuvve Nennu. Madurai Veeran is a campus love-story with loads of action.
Utilizing the opportunity well, the young hero has given one of his best performances. Debutant Saloni is impressive. Coupled with good looks and a neat performance, the actress is sure to make an impact in the industry.
Shiva (Ramesh) is the son of a rich businessman in Madurai. Priya (Saloni) is the daughter of a milk supplier-cum-rowdy Mayandi (Lal). Shiva and Priya study together in a college. Priya develops a hatred for Shiva initially. But sequence of events results in her develops an affinity for Shiva. They face trouble in the form of their parents. Their parent’s promises to get them married but comes up with a restriction that they should not meet for the next one year. However Shiva is forced to go to Mumbai and gets locked up in a house at Mumbai by his father. Mayandi arranges for her wedding with a friend of his. The rest of the story is about how the love pair unites against all odds.
The movie has loads of action and takes interesting twists and turns. The movie is heavily inspired by films like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Maine Pyar Kiya.
Actor Jeeva (Ramesh’s younger brother) has dubbed for Ramesh. It has suited him well. The rest of the cast includes Kanja Karuppu, Venniradai Murthy, V M C Haneefa and ‘Dhool’ Sakunthala. Srikanth Deva has come up with his trademark peppy musical score. Cinematography by V Jaishankar and stunts by Rocky Rajesh help sustain the momentum in the screenplay.
On the flip side, Vincent Selvah should have avoided too many bloodshed and gory stunt sequences towards the climax.
