The Kerala box-office is booming. During the Eid weekend (Aug 9 to 11), four Malayalam films – Kadal Kadannoru Mathukkutty, Memories, Neelakasham Pachakkadal Chuvanna Bhoomi, Pullippulikalum Aattinkuttiyum and two big budget other language films- Chennai Express and Thalaivaa were released.
It was for the first time so many biggies released on the same day in Kerala. But the surprising fact was all the films were well received by the audiences. From 370 odd releasing screens, the six films have reported to have grossed an amazing Rs 10.5 Crore, the highest ever combined gross in Kerala during a festival weekend.
The clear number one at the Kerala Box-Office during the Eid Weekend is Vijay`s Thalaivaa, which is reported to have netted nearly Rs 2 crore. The controversies and the ban in Tamil Nadu helped the film to garner a terrific opening.
In the second position is Dulquer`s Neelakasham Pachakkadal Chuvanna Bhoomi, which netted around Rs 1.55 Cr in its first three days and carries very good reports. Lal Jose`s Kunchacko Boban movie Pullippulikalum Aattinkuttiyum seems to be attracting the family audiences and is at number three.
And in the fourth place is Prithviraj`s Memories which carries very good reports but is a slow starter due to too many releases. In the fifth place is Shah Rukh Khan`s Chennai Express which took a very good opening all over Kerala largely due to Thursday`s paid premiere shows. And in the sixth position is Mammootty`s Ranjith directed Kadal Kadannoru Mathukkutty, which failed to take off.
