Prabhu Deva in Urumi

India’s most proficient cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Santosh Sivan’s bilingual film Urumi was launched in Kochi, Kerala recently. The film is based on the assassination of Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama, who arrived in Kappad near Calicut in 1498. Interestingly Urumi comes with the tagline: ‘The boy who wanted to kill Vasco Da Gama.’

Starring Prithviraj and pretty Genelia in the lead, Urumi is produced by the Santosh Sivan-Prithviraj duo’s new production company August Cinema in Malayalam, Tamil and English. The latest buzz is that the director has roped in Prabhu Deva to play a prominent role in the film.

Santosh Sivan said that the film will be shot in Kerala and later in the forest areas of Malshej Ghat, Maharashtra.
