HYDERABAD: After rocking the box office last year with ‘Golmaal 3’, Ajay Devgn and director Rohit Shetty are back with ‘Singham’, a remake of the Tamil super-hit starring Suriya. While the hunt for the female lead was on for quite a while, the makers have now finalised Kajal Aggarwal to play Ajay’s love interest in the film.
Kajal is a popular actress down south with a repertoire of successful films in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. She rose to prominence after her performance as Yuvarani Mitravinda Devi and Indira in the 2009 Telugu super-hit ‘Magadheera,’ which also won her a Filmfare nomination for Best Actress (Telugu).
Says director Rohit Shetty, “Kajal is very popular down south. She has done ‘Magadheera’, one of the biggest Telugu hits of all time. We are confident about her pulling off her role in my film successfully.”
There are not many similarities between the original and the remake, Rohit says. “Seventy five percent of the film will be different. But the original basic premise will stay the same. We have to make the film accessible to every market. So the story will differ from the original. I have introduced new characters and subplots to cater to the general audience.” ‘Singham’ will hit theatres this July.
