James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman come together in Timur Bekmambetov’s soon-to-release Wanted. After Timur’s Russian box office hits such as Night Watch and Day Watch, Wanted turns out more to be a captivating journey of sight and sound than a typical action film.
The storyline is about a young man (James McAvoy) who finds out that his long lost father is an assassin. When his father is murdered, James is hired into his father’s organization known as the Fraternity to follow his father’s footsteps. This begins the journey for James where he is made to leave the existence he knows to become what he always longed to be. Morgan Freeman plays the head of the Fraternity who brings out a much darker side to his character in the end of the film, which is refreshing.
McAvoy’s performance can be considered as the highlight of the film, especially after his roles in critically acclaimed Oscar nominated film Atonement and highly touted performance in Last King of Scotland. His exceptional transformation from a pitiable loser to a cold blooded murderer in the film is amazing.
The story is not only fun but also brings about surprising twists in the plot which will make you completely engrossed. The effects team and Danny Elfman for his music definitely deserve appreciation for their outstanding efforts. Recommended for those who would not mind some serious violence, Wanted makes for a complete entertaining movie.
