Director: Jayar
Music :Jaison.J.Nair
Cast:Jayaram, Ramya, Sai Kumar
Jayaram and Jayaraj have come together to make a film on jumbos which is a light-hearted sentimental fare. To employ a terrible cliché, it’s like the proverbial curates egg – good in parts.
Krishna Prasad (Jayaram) ever since he encountered an elephant when he was a child has become an elephant lover. His world revolves around the jumbos and he regularly visits temple festivals just to watch and admire the majestic animal.
His Aanakambham (Elephant craze) leads him and his family into trouble that turns his life upside down. He rescues and nurses a temple elephant Arjunan which has been abandoned by its owner causing great embarrassment and hardship to the members of his joint family. Meanwhile, he is in love with Gowri (Ramya Nambeesan) a poor dance teacher who has her own sad story to say. Now Krishna Prasad’s enemies who deal with the purchase and sale of elephants (Sai Kumar and gang) humiliate him. All this leads to the climax in a temple festival.
Jayaram, a well-known elephant lover in real life is the pivot round which the film moves. He is indeed a delight to watch especially the way he communicates with elephants. Ramya has a nice homely feel about her and suits the role. The supporting cast of Sai Kumar, Jagathy, Innocent, Cochin Haneefa, Jagadheesh and KPAC Lalitha have tailor made roles, which they perform to perfection. The trouble with the script of Sudhish John, P.Aravind and Kamesh which has nothing new to offer and some of the scenes reminds of earlier elephant based movies.
There has been so many Malayalam movies made on elephants and Jayaram himself had done Pattabhisekham which was more entertaining. Added to that there is so much of mush and melodrama this makes the film more of a tearjerker than a comedy. But Jayaraj’s technical team as usual shines. A promising new music director Jaison.J.Nair is introduced and the songs are melodious. Count on the art work of Santosh Raman who has recreated the temple festival background impressively.
